HVAC Glossary

AFUE - The standard for rating furnace efficiency and stands for Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency.

Air Conditioner - Device which is used to control temperature and or humidity of the inside air.

Air Balance - Distributing air through the home system precisely matching required amount.

Boiler - Tank where heat produced from the combustion of fuels such as natural gas, fuel oil, coal or electricity and is used to generate hot water.

HVAC - Heating, ventilation and Air conditioning.

Humidity - The amount of water vapour in the air.

Hygrometer - Device which measures the amount of moisture in the air.

IAQ - Indoor air quality inside the building structure, relates to the comfort and health of its occupants.

Seer - Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio measures cooling efficiency of your air conditioner or heat pump. The higher the SEER number, the more energy efficient the air conditioning system is at converting electricity into cooling power.
